FAQs
What is a BioLoo integrated toilet system?
An integrated sanitation solution that collects and treats sewage and urine below ground using advanced wastewater treatment technology, ideal for remote locations like mining communities, rural schools and clinics.
How does a BioLoo toilet system work?
The system collects black and grey water, flushing toilets into an anaerobic zone for nutrient reduction. Effluent is then pumped to a bioreactor for aerobic treatment via a moving bed bio reactor (MBBR), filtered through a membrane, and sterilised using ozone.
What are the benefits of a BioLoo toilet system?
Benefits include water conservation, wastewater treatment, nutrient reduction, odour control, environmental protection, and long-term sustainability. The system is durable and requires minimal maintenance.
Can the treated water be reused?
Yes, the treated water is safe for non-potable applications such as dust suppression, irrigation, and toilet flushing, reducing the need for fresh water.
What is the expected lifespan of a BioLoo system?
Designed for longevity, BioLoo systems have an expected lifespan of up to 20 years with minimal maintenance.
How is BioLoo different from traditional sanitation systems?
In contrast to conventional sanitation systems, which frequently present hygiene and environmental concerns, BioLoo utilises cutting-edge wastewater treatment technology to eliminate odours, promote responsible wastewater management, and offer a sustainable and environmentally sound alternative.
